Mental Health Innovation Fund Announcement

Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU), Reza Moridi announced the extension of $12-million over two years of the Mental Health Innovation Fund to colleges and universities on October 10, 2014 at the University of Toronto’s Exam Centre. Parliamentary Assistant to MTCU and MPP for Trinity-Spadina, Han Dong and U of T’s Assistant Vice-President of Student Life, Lucy Fromowitz also participated in the event. The Mental Health Innovation Fund supports new and innovative approaches to help postsecondary students and those transitioning to college or university access the mental health services they need. The next call for proposals will focus on First Nation and Métis students, students with addictions issues and students with mental health or addictions issues who are transitioning from secondary to postsecondary studies. The U of T received funding for three projects including The Virtual Ward, a partnership between Ryerson and York; Speaking Your Language, a partnership between Ryerson and OCAD; and By Students, For Students, Dr. Marcus Law, Faculty of Medicine.
