Investing in our Canada Research Chairs

The Hounourable Ed Holder, Minister of State for Science and Technology, was on campus to announce $118 million in funding across Canada, of which $29.6 million will go to University of Toronto researchers. U of T alumnus, MP for York Centre, Mark Adler was also present for the announcement at the St. George campus on October 16th, 2014. The University of Toronto has 13 new Canada Research Chairs and 12 who retained their existing chairs. One of U of T’s new chairholders, Dr. Goldie Nejat, who also participated in the event, will continue to work in enabling robots to interact with humans in areas where robots could be of great help in areas such as health, emergency response, education and security applications. As of July 21, 2014, the University of Toronto is home to 222 Canada Research Chairs and two Canada Excellence Research Chairs.
